Susan Bastian Voice & Piano
Sue Bastian studied vocal performance and minored in Piano at the Ohio Wesleyan University School of Music. She immediately moved to Germany where she studied opera in Hannover, graduating from the Opera School there. While all of this was happening, she married German theologian Michael Bastian and began a family. Sue taught voice and piano, performed widely, raised 3 children, remained active in ministry, and led several groups of musicians and actors on international tours which used original compositions, Gospel and classical music.
Sue’s teaching career spans 40 years and includes voice, opera, musical theater, piano, music theory, sight-singing, composition, improvisation, mise en scene (staging opera), and acting. She is an expert in German and French Art Song interpretation and diction as well as opera staging in the Felsenstein Method.
In Piano lessons, Sue enjoys teaching improvisation along with piano skills, music theory, sight-reading and repertoire. Her motto is this:
There’s no stress in piano. Let it be fun!
Along with music instruction, Sue is also a Yoga master and trains yoga teachers internationally in Christ-based Yoga science.
Sue is a member of NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing), which means she can enter students into voice competitions nationally.
